One of the many ways we can express our love for our children to our children is to sing to them!
When our daughters were small, I began to sing simple songs to them that came from my heart. Sometimes I would sing to them as I opened the blinds in their bedroom to a new day.
I think one of the things that made these simple songs so meaningful to us was that they were personal. As I’d sing, I’d often look my daughters in the eye and smile and they would know that the song was for them packaged in mommy’s love.
There is something special that can happen when a child hears mommy sing to them in this way. Mommy’s voice. Mommy’s love. Mommy’s look of endearment. That is what matters. Our children aren’t looking for us to have perfect singing voices. (And I am so glad because I certainly don’t!) Instead they are looking to hear mommy’s voice however humble, singing with a heart of love for them.
Here is one of my little mommy songs:
I Love You, Yes I Do!
As you listen, you will hear this song repeated three times. Why? Hint: We have three daughters.
Would you like to sing this song to your children? If so, be ready for your children’s eyes to sparkle and for the extra hugs that may come your way.
I Love You, Yes I Do!
My, my, my, what a good morning!
My, my, my, what a good day!
My, my, my, what a good time,
For mommy to say:
I love you, yes I do!
I love you, through and through.
I love you, it’s really true!
(Insert: First, middle, last name)
I love YOU!

As a young daughter my parents encouraged me to memorize Scripture verses. I memorized Isaiah 41:10 and it became one of my favorite verses.
“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.” Isaiah 41:10
As an adult I continue to treasure Isaiah 41:10. And I can say with confidence that God has always been faithful to His Word. Praise Him! He is worthy of all our trust.
