Would you like a creative way to reflect on part of the Easter story found in Matthew 27:27-54 with your children?
If so, I highly recommend creating a Scripture Picture Book together!
A little family history will help to explain why. Years ago, our daughters, Melissa (3), Kristen (5) and Melanie (6), were on the floor having fun drawing and coloring pictures. Pictures to represent the story of Jesus’ birth from Luke chapter 2. These pictures were being drawn on a large and long piece of paper.
I soon realized that their artistry was precious and worth keeping, yet, the paper was large, and folding it up and trying to store it year after year was not very practical. So I decided to encourage them to draw pictures again, this time on individual pieces of 8 1/2” x 11” cardstock. Taping the completed pages together into a long strip made it easy to fold up the story book like an accordion and then read together.
What I did not realize was that this was the beginning of creating Scripture Picture Books in our home!! Scripture Picture Books that we would continue to make and enjoy for years to come.
We found these books to be a simple yet powerful way to think about, talk about, study and enjoy God’s Word together. We also found that as we read our Scripture Picture Books over and over again, often during Bible Time, our daughters began to memorize the Bible passages without even trying!
We now have a little library of precious and varied Scripture Picture Books that were created over a span of years. It is still fun to look at the books together, savor God’s Word and share memories the Scripture Picture Books bring to mind.
It is a joy to share the idea of Scripture Picture Books with you! I hope you too will be blessed this Easter and in the years to come by creating and using Scripture Picture Books with your children.

Are you praying about what Bible verse to enjoy with your little children this Easter? You might like to consider Matthew 28:6!
Let’s take a look at three ways to enjoy this verse with your little children. Read, talk and chair walk!
1. Read
Read Matthew 28:6 from your Bible to your children.
2. Talk
Talk with your child about what Matthew 28:6 is saying. Talk to God together thanking that Jesus died and rose again for you and your child.
3. Chair Walk!
PRINT AND CUT:
Print and cut apart the Bible reference and word cards to Matthew 28:6 found in the following download:
DISTRIBUTE CARDS:
When your family is sitting at your Easter table, give one person the first Bible reference card. Then continue to go around the table. Distribute the other cards, one card per person, in verse word order.
You will need to go around the table more than once as you distribute the cards in order, unless you have a large family.
TAP AND WALK:
Have your little child stand by the person who has the Bible reference card with a numeral 1 at the corner of the card. Instruct your child to tap that person. When she does, that person is to say: “Matthew 28:6.” Then encourage her to walk to the next chair and tap the person in that chair. Each time a person is tapped, they are to say the word on the card that is the next word in the verse.
Extra!
You may like to have family members who are saying the word on the card that is in front of them, to also add an action that would relate to the word on their card.
For example:
“not” – shake head no
“risen” – raise hands
“said” – put hand to side of mouth
“come” – beckon with the hand
“see” – point to eye
“lay” – lay head on folded hands
If you have a family of 5, your child will walk around the table a number of times before the whole verse is said.
TAKE TURNS:
If you have more than one little child, they can take turns going on a Chair Walk! As your family becomes familiar with what to do, your children can start to walk faster and faster around the chairs! Fun!
KEEP GOING!
Ready for more? After Matthew 28:6 has been said, you can collect all the cards and redistribute them, giving someone else the first Bible reference card. In doing so, everyone will receive different word cards to use. Choose a child to be the ‘walker’, and enjoy the verse again!

Are you looking for a hymn to sing with your family this Easter?
“Christ Arose” is a wonderful hymn to consider. The words found in the three verses of this hymn are a great reminder of the glorious truth that Christ rose again.
Chorus
Up from the grave He arose
With a mighty triumph o’er His foes.
He arose a victor from the dark domain
And He lives forever with His saints to reign!
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah! Christ arose!
Verse 1
Low in the grave He lay, Jesus my Saviour
Waiting the coming day, Jesus my Lord.
Verse 2
Vainly they watch His bed, Jesus my Saviour
Vainly they seal the dead, Jesus my Lord.
Verse 3
Death cannot keep his prey, Jesus my Saviour
He tore the bars away, Jesus my Lord.
Words by: Robert Lowry

Or perhaps you would appreciate some piano accompaniment as you sing! We welcome your family to sing along with this recording as our daughter Kristen plays “Christ Arose” on the piano.
May your family’s hearts rejoice as you enjoy singing together this Easter!

Isn’t it wonderful to know that as we prepare to celebrate a Christ centered Easter with our families we can pray and ask the Lord for His guidance?!
And as we wait on the Lord, we can ask ourselves three simple questions:
1. What Easter song would we like to sing?
2. What Bible verses would we like to enjoy?
3. What activities would we like to do together?
If you would you like some ideas as you contemplate answers to these questions, I welcome you to join me on the following Easter posts! With our answers to the above three questions in hand we can look forward to a refreshing and joyful Easter, focusing on the Lord and His resurrection.

Let’s be like a tree. Like a tree that is planted by water. A tree ready to bring forth fruit in its season. Let’s plant ourselves by the living water of God’s Word. Come be refreshed as we meditate on God’s Word together.
Psalm 42:1-8
As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?
When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.
Deep calleth unto deep at the noice of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.
Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
New to Like a Tree?
Psalm 1:1-3 encourages us to meditate on God’s Word day and night. God tells us that when we do, we will be like a tree planted by water. A fruitful tree. A tree that stays fresh and green. Join me on Like a Tree as we meditate on God’s Word together.
